Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner are battling in what is an extremely exciting boxing fight as Pacquiao fans are eager to see the soon to be 40-year-old return to the ring. The fight takes place on January 19th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Boxing experts everywhere have been debating who will win the fight and take home the WBA 147-pound title. The Vegas odds are currently in Pacquiao’s favor as he has years of experience and Broner has had a few rough years where he has lacked concentration. Shawn Porter had a few thoughts on the fight.
“Manny Pacquiao wins this fight,” said Porter of Pacquiao. “If he turns it up right away, he can very well get Adrien out of there. I think this fight goes however Pacquiao wants it to go.”
“Pacquiao might allow Adrien to come out and get comfortable, covering up and blocking those shots,” said Porter. “We’ve seen Pacquiao do that with the likes of Miguel Cotto and Shane Mosley, but I expect this to go in the manner Pacquiao determines.”
Porter’s analysis of the fight is very interesting as he believes there is a chance that Pacquiao allows Broner into the fight to try and lull him into a false sense of security. Pacquiao has the experience and pedigree to ensure that this fight goes his way. Broner does have a similar fighting style to Floyd Mayweather who beat Pacquiao back in 2015. If Broner can emulate Mayweather there is a real chance that he can do a lot of damage against Pacquiao and upset the boxing world. Broner certainly has the confidence to take down Pacquiao.
“The Pac Man” has “been knocked out three times,” said Broner, adding “he can go out and go to sleep.”
“I feel like [Pacquiao] can’t beat me,” said Broner, 29. “Look at my resume – what do I do to southpaws? I stop them. Going into this fight, I’m very confident.”
Broner is incredibly confident that he can take down the veteran Pacquiao. Broner does have an impressive record of 6-0 against left-handed boxers. Broner’s record against left-handers could be indicative of how he will perform against Pacquiao. Broner will be looking to take the fight to Pacquiao vs Broner has a lot less to lose in this fight compared to Pacquiao. Pacquiao could lose the ability to fight Floyd Mayweather in a potential rematch if he does not pick up the win against Broner. Another interesting fact is that Broner has never been knocked out in his career while Pacquiao has been knocked out multiple times. This fact could play out in their matchup as both fighters will be looking to knock the other fighter out. Pacquiao and Broner both have powerful punches that could easily lead to a knockout punch at some point during the fight.
